CASE STUDY: WEB APP for Talent Matching

The Challenge:  "How might we strengthen relationships between coaches, their teachers, and schools?" At Teach For America, many of the 50+ regional teams used a time-intensive manual process involving multiple excel docs, google spreadsheets, paper maps, sticky notes, note cards, and more to match coaches with teachers. In addition, staff had to figure out how to best match coaches with schools while considering dozens of variables. Year after year these teams would spend hundreds of hours redefining the process and making the matches.

The Approach: For our solution, we designed a system that could build trust among coaches and teachers and that would also significantly reduce the amount of time needed for the critical business process. The web-based app used data compiled from our shared data assets and used a custom matching algorithm that users could adjust to meet the needs of their varying contexts. 


Results: We were able to build, test, and deploy the app within 3 months while completing the project below budget by combining on site developer talent with off-shore consultants. The app saved team members time, gave them new ways to think about the data and how it connected to their strategy, and also created a template for matching that was later used in other projects.
